Classic cars are a favorite among collectors as well driving enthusiasts. Anyone who has a fascination with automobiles loves the idea of owning a timeless piece of ingenuity - we’re talking about cars such as the Mercury Marauder of 65, Cadillac Seville of '87 and the uber-classic Ford pickup trucks from '41. Prominent celebrities are no exception to this craze, as we discuss three such celebs who own notable classic cars.
Jay Leno
We can’t talk about car collecting celebrities, without mentioning Jay Leno. Not only is his car collection one of the largest (200+) on the planet but due to his celebrity status, it is also one of the most well-documented. His collection includes everything from a 1906 Stanley steamer to a McLaren F1. If we talk about his classic cars, one that particularly stands out is the 1934 Phantom II; the last 40 HP model Rolls-Royce ever made. While the Royce would be nearly impossible to find, even among old wrecked cars for sale, you could still hope to spot other models from his collection such as the '86 Lamborghini Countach or the '70 Citroen SM.
Mischa Barton
Mischa Barton, who played Marissa Cooper on The O.C. and Agent Melanie Hamlin in the movie Swat Unit: 877 owns a classic 1970 blue Cadillac convertible. If you’re a genuine car lover, you’d know that Cadillac cars belong to the iconic, 110 year-old division of GM. Whether it is the service benefits, luxury factor, driving experience or the fact that Cadillac models are always up to the latest trends in the auto industry, Cadillac cars are unparalleled. Mischa had to shell out $15,000 for hers, but you can browse online auction sites and you could find one for much less. Iconic models include 1908, 1953, 1948 series 62 among others.
Nic Cage
Leno is not the only one on the list who loves Rolls-Royce. Cage, the self-made, eccentric actor, you remember from the movie ‘Gone in 60 Seconds’ and ‘Leaving Las Vegas’, too, owns one or two. Most notable one being the 1964 Silver Clouds III. Adding more flair to his collection is one of Lamborghini’s most iconic cars ever; the 350 GT and the car that acquainted the world with Porsche’s design capabilities in 1955- the 356 Pre-A Speedster. He also owns a 1958 Ferraro 250 GT Pininfarina and a 1963 Jaguar E-type Semi-Lightweight Competition. Car collectors are probably saying ‘tough act to follow’ right now.
Want One?
If any of that was inspiring in any way, you probably want to start looking for a classic car for yourself right away. Not to discourage you but the rare cars could cost up to well over a million dollars, and that too after spending countless days on research. There is a viable alternative, though; salvage yards. The catch is you shouldn’t expect your findings to be in the best of shape, and you may need to spend a little out of your pocket to take care of some basic repair work.
Good Luck!
